5th ANNUAL LYNN MARGARIT FOUNDATION
Charity Golf Classic
The Lynn Margarit Foundation is having its fifth annual charity golf classic. It will be 18 holes of golf on Saturday June 14th, 2008 at the Moss Ridge Golf Club and Banquet Center at 13545 Apple Avenue in Ravenna, Michigan. The Lynn Margarit Foundation is a non-profit organization established in the memory of the late Lynn Margarit, for the purpose of helping kids through sports.
Lynn Margarit 1945 - 2002
Lynn Margarit was born Nov. 5, 1945, in Fort William, Ontario. Margarit played 10 seasons of professional hockey as a defenseman. Eight of those seasons were with the Muskegon Mohawks of the International Hockey League. Lynn's first full season in 1967-68, was with the Muskegon Mohawks when he helped Muskegon win both the IHL Huber Trophy and IHL Turner Cup championships. During the 1972-73 season, Lynn Margarit was selected as member of the IHL All-Star team. During his career with the Muskegon Mohawks, Lynn was a member of: 5-division championship teams; 4-Huber Trophy teams (overall IHL regular season championship); and 1-Turner Cup team (IHL playoff championship). The all-star defenseman led the Mohawks in penalty minutes in seven of his eight seasons in Muskegon. He is the franchise's all-time leader in penalty minutes. After his playing career ended, Lynn worked in Muskegon, Michigan, with AAA Insurance and was active in the community. During the 1991-92 IHL season his uniform number 5, was retired by the Muskegon hockey franchise.
Lynn's family decided that they would like to give back to the area in which the Margarit family made their home. In Lynn's memory they started the "Lynn Margarit Foundation," which is a non-profit organization (IRS ID# 86-1074228) to help children participate in youth sports. Many times there are children who are unable to participate in various sports related activities due to a lack of financial resources. Some times different organizations that sponsor youth sports need financial assistance to keep their youth programs viable. That is where the "Lynn Margarit Foundation," will come in to help them out. The foundation has been and will be in contact with schools and various sports programs to see where financial assistance is needed.
